Spanish hotel group invests in city hotels in central Cuba
Published on June 23, 2017 Email To Friend    Print Version

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- Melia Hotels International, with 27 years of operations in Cuba, including Camagüey province, has signed a contract for managing the Gran Hotel, Colón Hotel and Camagüey Hotel, three iconic facilities in Camagüey.

Operated thus far by Islazul, a local firm, which will maintain ownership of the properties, the hotels will benefit from financing provided by the Spanish hospitality group to remodel them and raise their standards.

The contract with Melia, which will be effective in January 2018, will bring great benefit to Camagüey as a future city destination, since it will increase the quality of its accommodation capacity, which ranges third-fourth in terms of tourism demand in Cuba.

The motivation for Melia to work in Camagüey is said to be based on the invaluable historical and cultural heritage of the city, where the old, traditional and modern converge in the same scenario.

In addition to improved standards resulting from the agreement with Melia, Camagüey is also working on the expansion of its accommodation capacity, with more than 100 new rooms under construction or renovation, between the town and Santa Lucia beach.

In the case of the latter area, a future project foresees the construction of more than 300 rooms by the end of this year or the beginning of the next.
